Booking A Tour FAQ

Can I add more people to the reservation after I booked?2022-04-19T12:32:40+00:00

Our system doesn’t allow changing the number of people after booking. We kindly ask you to cancel your reservation via the link in your confirmation email and make a new booking for the extra people, if enough spots are available.

If the tour is full, we can’t manually add more people for you. We have a strict maximum of people and risk getting a fine if we exceed. Consider booking a tour on another date or time.

How do I know if my booking is received?2022-05-10T08:19:41+00:00

After choosing your date & time and entering your name & email address, you are taken to this screen:

Make sure to click on the BOOK NOW button to confirm your submission. If your booking is recorded, you will see this screen:

An email is sent to your email address for further reference.

Didn’t receive anything? There are several possibilities why this happens:

  • The email address was entered with a typo
  • The confirmation email is recognized as spam (check your spam folder!)
  • Our booking system isn’t working correctly.

No worries, your booking is surely recorded if you saw the screen above. If you wish to receive the details anyway, please send us an email.

Why is a tour date/time not available in the booking calendar?2022-03-19T13:34:22+00:00

All tours for this date are fully booked. Try one of our other tours, like the cultural Alternative Tour, scrumptious Food Tour or spooky Dark Side Tour.

If you really want to come on this date and have a larger group, consider taking a Private Walking Tour of Amsterdam. You can enjoy Amsterdam and your own private guide for your party!

Can I reserve the tour for more than 4 people?2022-03-19T13:09:18+00:00

Our booking system allows reservations for a maximum of 4 people per booking. Our experience has showed us that other attendees appreciate smaller groups within the tour, to keep the tour up to speed and because it’s easier to make new friends between smaller groups. We kindly ask you to respect this.

If you are visiting with a larger group, consider booking a Private Walking Tour. You will have full attention of your own guide and it leaves more space for improvisation during the tour.

Still wish to join a Free Tour with a group larger than 4 people? If we have enough availability, you can make multiple reservations in our booking system under the same name and email address.

Can I change or cancel the reservation?2022-03-19T13:22:37+00:00

No problem! You can cancel the tour in your confirmation email through this button:

You can make a new reservation on your preferred date & time. If you need further assistance, send us an email.

Meeting Point

Dive Into The Real Amsterdam And Explore Its Underground Culture And Undocumented History

Amsterdam is widely known for its liberal prostitution law and soft drugs legislation, but it hasn’t always been this way. On the Alternative Tour, we tell you how a conservative Christian Amsterdam in the 1960s transformed into the open-minded ‘Magic Center of Counterculture’ as we know it today.

A Huff And A Puff Of Half-Baked History

Yes, Amsterdam coffeeshops sell more than coffee and smartshops don’t sell encyclopedias. Learn how the Amsterdam hippie movement fought for the legislation of marijuana and magic mushrooms and clear the air on the Netherlands’ hazy soft drugs policy. We will tell you the Do’s & Don’ts with available narcotics and explain the complicated answer to the question: ‘Is soft drugs legal?’.

The Bicycle As A Dutch National Symbol

Apart from windmills and wooden shoes, one of the most recognizable things associated with the Netherlands is the bicycle. Find out how hippie anti-car protests led to bike access for everyone and when cycling culture became part of Dutch DNA.

Locate The Beating Heart Of The City In The Charming Jordaan

Since the 17th century, the Jordaan has been Amsterdam’s true civilian hub and one of the oldest neighborhoods of Amsterdam. Fall in love with its stunning canals, cute houseboats and cozy streets. Be careful: you might not want to leave!

The Alternative tour is about the recent history of Amsterdam. So from the 1950 until today. Why is Amsterdam so Liberal? Why is Marijulana legal in Amsterdam? (is it legal?) The hippie times, counter culture, Free love, Free houses, and a lot more.

The Classic tour is the normal Free Walking tour, a tour a bit of everything, and also origen of Amsterdam. So if you have only 1 day in Amsterdam we would recommend the Free walking tour Amsterdam.(classic tour) And if you have more days, or if you are not a history lover. Do the Alternative tour, and all the other tours we have.

We start te tour from the National monument on Dam square, and from there we walk towards the Gay monument, Annefrank house, and into the beautifull Jordaan area. We walk along the prinsengracht back to the Dam square. So you don’t get lost.

The tour is about 2 hours. This sounds long but most people are said the tour is over. It is 1 hour walking and 1 hours talking. We do not have a break in the middle, so please bring water or a drink on the tour.

The Alternative tour is also a Free Walking tour. So you get to set the price, most people give about €10,- per person if the tour felt good. But it is all up to you we are happy with anything you can miss.
