The date is fully booked, can I still come to the tour?2022-09-07T10:25:55+00:00

Try one of our other tours, like the cultural Alternative Tour, scrumptious Food Tour, or medieval Dark Side Tour.

If a timeslot or date isn’t available on the calendar, we are fully booked. We never take more people on our tour than the allowed maximum, because we risk a hefty fine. You can always try your luck and come to the meeting point, but we can’t guarantee a spot.

Can I reserve the tour for more than 4 people?2022-09-15T16:28:58+00:00

Our booking system allows reservations for a maximum of 4 people.

The maximum allowed size of tour groups is only 15 people, which is why aim towards solo travellers and small groups. Our experience has shown us that other attendees don’t appreciate larger groups within the tour. Smaller groups keep the tour up to speed and make it easier to make new friends. We kindly ask you to respect this.

Can I change or cancel the reservation?2022-10-02T20:45:29+00:00

No problem! If you want to schedule another time for your tour, you can cancel the tour in your confirmation email through this button and apply for a refund:

You can place a new booking on your preferred date & time. We kindly ask you to make a new reservation yourself, please do not email us with the request to change or cancel your reservation. Rebooking yourself is the best way to secure a new spot and how we keep our tours free.

If you still need further assistance, send us an email.

Meeting Point

Meet The Ghosts Of The Past On This Evening Tour Through Medieval Amsterdam

Famous for its liberal mentality, you wouldn’t guess that Amsterdam was once a place of public hangings and witch hunts. Aside from the inevitable ghost story, we show you that the actual events of Amsterdam’s ominous past are much more horrific than a cold spot in a shady street. Dwell into the dark alleys of medieval Amsterdam on this historic tour, that will chill your blood more than the common ghost tour.

Uncover The Urban Myths Of Amsterdam

Let us take you on a trip down a haunted memory lane, along ruinous buildings and areas of reported ghost sightings. Find out where certain streets got their spooky names, such as the Bloedstraat (Blood Street) and the Spooksteeg (Ghost Alley).

True Story: Possessed Orphans And The Graves Of The Nuns

In 1566, the city’s orphans mysteriously started acting a bit odd. Hear the harrowing story of how the children were slowly taken over by an inexplicable demonic force. Set out on a search for the lost skeletons of women of god and stand on the ground where women were burnt at the stake for their assumed pact with the devil.

Welcome To The City’s Torture Chamber

Unlock the backroom of Amsterdam, where anatomy lessons included unorthodox practices and anabaptists (unbaptized individuals) were gruesomely punished. Find out why the gallows were located at the docks, for arriving sailors to witness the public execution of criminals and discover how alleged witches were persecuted in the dark Middle Ages.

No, this tour is for 18+. The stories are not suitable for children, not even under supervision of a parent. We have great options for children, like our Classic Tour and Food Tour.

The tour starts at 16:00 (4pm). Please be on time, as there is no chance to catch up with the tour later. We end the tour close to the Dam square, where all our Free Tours start.

The tour is about the stories of medieval Amsterdam that hide in the shadow of the past. What would happen if people thought you were a witch? How were criminals punished? Where did some streets and squares get their spooky name in Amsterdam?

Amsterdam was not always as safe as it is today, prepare yourself for some dark stories of Amsterdam in the Middle Ages.

No, all organized tours in the Red Light District are strictly prohibited. In the Dark Side Tour, we tell a bit about prostitution from a historic perspective. If you want a tour that covers more about the story of prostitution in Amsterdam, we recommend the Alternative Tour (NOTE: The Alternative Tour is not a Red Light Tour!).

The darkside tour is a free walking tour, which means you get to set the price. We give our absolute best to inform, scare and explain Amsterdams midevels history. In the end you can decide how much the tour was worth to you. Most people give about €10,- per person when the tour feels good. But it is entirely up to you.

We do have to charge €1.55 entertainment tax at the start of the tour. This is not for us but the municipality.
