Booking A Tour FAQ

Can I reserve the tour for more than 6 people?

Reservations for the Free Walking Tour Amsterdam are limited to a maximum of 6 people per booking. We keep our groups small to ensure the best possible experience for everyone.

The maximum group size for guided tours in Amsterdam is 15 people. Smaller groups make it easier for everyone to hear the guide, ask questions, and enjoy the stories along the way. It also creates a more relaxed and social atmosphere for travelers exploring the city together.

What happens if I make multiple reservations?

If you make several reservations to try to bring a larger group on the Free Walking Tour Amsterdam, we unfortunately won’t be able to take the extra participants. Those spots may instead be given to other travelers who are waiting to join the tour.

Can larger groups join the tour?

If you are traveling with more than 6 people, we recommend booking a private walking tour in Amsterdam. This allows your group to have a guide dedicated entirely to you and to choose a time that fits your schedule.

For group bookings we offer private tours here:
Private Tours with Guided Tour Holland

This way your group can still enjoy a great experience while keeping our Free Walking Tour Amsterdam comfortable and enjoyable for everyone.

Is the Food Tour really free?

The tour is tip-based, but we charge a €8 booking fee per person. This fee includes an online booking fee and compensation for the samples you will taste.

Our guides offer you the tour for free, but will kindly ask you at the end of the tour to gratify them with a tip. Most people give around €10,- per person, but it is all up to you. In this way everybody can enjoy the tour, no matter your budget.

Are the tasters included?

Yes, the food is included in the booking fee of €8.

We visit various local shops where we purchase samples for you to try. Some shops may offer complimentary tastings, and we encourage you to support them by considering their products if you enjoy what you taste.

I am vegetarian, can I join the tour?

Yes, you can.

Not all tasters are vegetarian, but you can enjoy about 80% of the samples. Please note that Dutch hard cheeses are made with rennet, an animal byproduct. While most vegetarians enjoy the Dutch cheese, the choice is yours.

Our Free Food Tour is unfortunately not suitable for vegans. If you have special dietary requirements and would like a private group tour, feel free to reach out at https://guidedtourholland.com/amsterdam/ and we’ll arrange a custom tour just for you!

Where do we go with the Food Tour?

We start at the National Monument on Dam Square from there we walk to different shops all in the city center. We end at the Poolbar, afterwards the guide will bring you back to the dam square. So you do not get lost in the maze that the center of Amsterdam is.

Can we join the Free Food Tour with a group?

Yes, groups of up to 6 people per booking can join the Free Food Tour. The total tour group has a maximum of 15 participants per guide. Please register every participant, including children.

If your group has more than 6 people, please book a private food tour rather than making multiple reservations. A private tour gives your group its own guide and a day and time that suit you.

The Best Way To Experience The Dutch Culture, Is To Taste It

Us Dutchies are often seen as a bit peculiar—straightforward (okay, brutally honest), with dry wit and a taste for the unique. While we happily munch on raw fish right from the tail, we’re also sweet-toothed fanatics, indulging in everything from poffertjes (mini pancakes) to our irresistible stroopwafels (syrup waffles).

Now, while our traditional cuisine of mashed potatoes and overcooked veggies might not win any food awards, we definitely make up for it during borreluur (drink hour) with massive blocks of cheese and crispy bitterballen. For the bold, there’s drop—our uniquely strong liquorice.

Our tour ends and starts on Dam square and is approximately 2 hours long. Ready to dive into our deliciously odd world? Join the next Food Tour!
